Smokey Goretooth at it again with a new āDo I Suck?,ā MetalSucksā version of āAm I The Asshole?ā where we take real life horror stories and bring them to our readers to decide if the OP sucks for some bullshit they may or may not have done.
This weekās submission comes from a user who feels like they didnāt need to lose their spot by the stage for their friendās sake. Letās continueā¦
So, we just had our Warped Tour stop a few days ago, and I planned on going with one of my friends who had never attended the festival in the past at all. I used to go regularly in my younger years, so I was really excited to go and kind of wasnāt going to let anyone get in the way of it. I planned on getting there right when the gates opened, and my friend was going to meet me at some point in the afternoon.
There was a set I really wanted to see, and when my friend said they were on their way, I told them what stage I was at and that I was going to be towards the front. They texted me once they got there and said how they were really confused with the layout of the festival grounds and that they wanted me to come find them so we could be together. I read this text as the band was starting, and I responded to them saying that I really didnāt want to miss this set and that the map really wasnāt hard to figure out, and that I would just meet up with them after. This, apparently, was where I went wrong.
My friend then proceeds to blow my phone up about how shitty it was of me to not come and find them so that we could watch the set together, how Iām a bad friend, how they didnāt understand why I would invite them out if I didnāt plan on spending time with them, and how they felt I should reimburse them for their ticket because they wouldnāt have gone if I hadnāt invited them. I got quickly frustrated with the whole thing because one, they are a, ya know, adult and can figure their life out on their own, and two, there were bands they actually wanted to see who were playing that day so placing the ticket purchase blame on me was not only dumb but also absolutely infuriating. I didnāt even get to really enjoy the band, because continually feeling my phone going off was filling me with a rage redder than the devilās dick.
The thing is ā I never responded. Like, at all. I was so fucking mad that I just decided to let them drift about the festival on their own, because I donāt feel like I need to hold anyoneās hand. Plus, after how they started the afternoon, I had no interest in spending time with them for the rest of day anyway. They kept sending me texts about how I āabandonedā them and how they feel like I ruined our friendship, but I feel like thatās so overwrought and dramatic that it didnāt warrant any of my energy. They then told me we were done and that they were leaving, and after I still didnāt respond, they posted mildly veiled posts about how disloyal the people in their life are and how people canāt be trusted.
I still havenāt reached out to them, but theyāve told some of our mutual friends about the situation. They all, for the most part, feel I shouldāve left my good spot at the front to sift through the crowd and find them to stand with them. I probably wouldāve at some point, but their incessant texting didnāt really give me the chance, or a desire to create one.
We still havenāt spoken, and everyone thinks Iām an asshole. So, do I actually suck, though?
Not gonna lie, Iām with the submitter on this one. Having a full grown adult turn into a non-grown baby over having to watch a set by themselves would enrage me to no end, and I probably wouldnāt ever respond to them either. I guess that makes both of us sucky peopleā¦
