We all know Metallica in one way or another; no metal or rock band can say that they weren’t inspired by or know some of Metallica’s work. But it was a totally different scene back in 1984. The first Metallica record was not groundbreaking; it showed some talent and an emerging group of metalheads, but it didn’t stand on its own among all the heavy releases back then. Ride The Lightning, however, carries a signature, a distinctive mark of a new sound. The same happened when the rock era began; when listeners heard Elvis, they knew “that’s the King”. When you hear Ride The Lightning, you know “that’s Metallica”.
