Quiet Riot don’t know the first thing about noize. Noise, maybe. Anyone can do that. But noize is a special honor reserved for the one of the stompingest, clappingest, roof-raisingest rock’n’roll bands ever to get down and get with it. Slade were the rock band to beat in their day: Old New Borrowed And Blue followed a string of nine UK top-five singles from 1971 to 1974, including six #1s, and it produced a #2 and a #3 on its own. It’s a great musical injustice that only three years later they skidded into Whatever Happened To Slade, but albums like this remain as proof of what Slade could do when they turned up the heat.
