Nothing screams the year is 2025 quite like naming a song after a disposable vape that was lying around in the studio – “What’s funny is this name initially came up just as a demo name. ’cause there was a Sour Apple-flavored vape in the room. We worked out the instrumentals, and then when we finished the vocals and the lyrics, we were trying to come up with what the song will be called,” and hardcore band AVOID decided to land on the vape flavor. Nice.
However, frontman Benny Scholl explains that the song is about more than that though, saying “the song is about reflecting on the past and letting go, but also being able to be upset when things haven’t always gone your way. In a way, kind of being a ‘Sour Apple’ about things sometimes and we realized that the name ended up representing the song perfectly.”
AVOID‘s third single “Sour Apple” released alongside the announcement of the band’s forthcoming EP, Creature Of Habit, out on November 14th via UNFD. Previous singles “BURN” and “If It Hurts” set the scene for a rather rowdy hardcore nü-metal fusion that leaves room for a melodic chorus or two.
