Crippled Black Phoenix needs no introduction and their recent album Sceaduhelm is as good as it comes. One of my favourite songs of theirs, though, has been “Of A Lifetime,” a Journey cover found on I, Vigilante from 16 years ago. The line up of CPB has always been like a revolving door and therefore it’s no wonder I went looking where that singer of theirs, Daisy Chapman, ended up over the years.
It’s a curious fact that most of Venus Principle is comprised of CPB ex-members. Which is not to say that Venus Principle sounds like CPB. Stand In Your Light is a great-sounding prog album with its own character. Similarities are in the familiarity of details: vocals, guitar sounds, compositional and structural elements. Shame I missed this album when it came out over four years ago but it’s definitely been a great find.
